Stephen Tanzer International Wine Cellar has reviewed and rated two of Chateau d’Esclans 2010 Rose wines including “Chateau” (given a 90) considering it Outstanding and Whispering Angel (an 88) considering it Very Good to Excellent.
2010 Château d’Esclans rosé – Côtes de Provence
Light onion skin color. Candied red berries, potpourri and baking spices on the rather powerful nose, with a subtle note of vanilla. Soft and silky at first, then more tangy and taut in the mid-palate, with very good clarity to its strawberry and white peach flavors. Pick up a note of candied rose with air and finishes with very good silky persistence.
2010 Whispering Angel rosé – Côtes de Provence
Pale pink. Redcurrant, dried flowers and spices on the nose, with a subtle herbal quality emerging with air. Dry and tightly focused, with good grip to its bitter red fruit flavors. The firm finish features good cut and lingering herbacity.
